An aside

Dear Reader,

We have been following Laysan's tale these past few weeks and as she emerges from surgery, it is necessary to let her heal for a little while. You may have noted that the entries regarding Laysan occur in a setting referred to as "(here)". This is the name of the universe in which Laysan lives. It is meant to be the same universe that you, my friends, supposedly inhabit.

While Laysan recovers, we are going to go to a different universe which we shall denote as "(there)". We will also go far, far back in time and see what sort of troubles a completely different character named Laurel encounters on the slope of some ancient mountainside. I would like to warn you that individuals populating the (there) universe, while seemingly similar to ourselves, actually live by a vastly different set of rules. And so, I cordially ask that you should expect some strange and confusing terms and traditions. I hope that my raft of amateur writers can eventually convey the details of these difference over time. If not, I hope that you will feel free to ask any questions that you wish in the comments of this blog. (And the authors will be suitably punished for their inabilities. For it is necessary for them to understand the inconveniences they cause you by inflicting upon them situations that are appropriately inconvenient.)

As we visit with Laurel on her mountain roost, one of the main set pieces that we wish to introduce is "The Hollow Well". Look for that term.

So, please sit back and enjoy Laurel's tale if you can, and feel secure in knowing that we will return to see how Laysan is faring in a few weeks. Also, fear not, both Laurel and Laysan exist in plot threads which are intimately related and profoundly necessary in the telling of the story of Key.

Thanks,
hollow well (by proxy)
